Looking for songs to make you feel ‘merry and bright’ this holiday season? I’m sharing the Top Holiday Songs our family listens to and how yours can, too.
Music and Your Mood
Do you ever find yourself watching a movie or show that causes you to laugh harder? Shed a tear? Or just have a feel-good warmness because of the music on its soundtrack? I’ve noticed even in the kids’ shows on TV, the songs and music really bring out emotion. Music can elevate, enhance or change a mood.

Holidays Are Emotional
Holidays are usually filled with love and laughter, presents, and time for families to be together. But there are many people hurting, suffering, and in pain this time of year, too. Therefore, problems don’t stop because it’s Christmas time.
Some have loved ones battling illnesses, some have lost someone close to them, people are losing jobs, families are going hungry, families are at war with each other . . . and the list goes on. Consequently, Christmas time can be lonely for those who are missing the happier times. Although songs can make us miss someone, perhaps some of the songs on my playlist will lift spirits.
There are so many holiday songs ranging from happy and cheerful, to solemn and religious, and there are also songs that tell stories. They can evoke happy, sad, longing, hopeful or other emotions in us.
Holiday Songs
I like to listen to Christmas music while decorating the house and also while we are home playing games, baking cookies, or doing dishes. Our favorite is “Holiday Classics” station on our Amazon Echo (“Alexa” as we call it.) We also enjoy singing along to songs in the car.
