A Healthy Valentine’s Day Treat For Kids

My kids, and myself included, have been consuming more sugar than usual making our Valentine’s Day desserts.  So I wanted to make a healthy Valentine’s Day treat too.  We decided to use apples. I bought large red Honeycrisp apples for this recipe, but you could pick any type or color—and it would probably be pretty to have different colors.

Icing and sprinkles were used to decorate the apples, but you can keep it healthier by just arranging the apples in the heart-shaped design.

This was the easiest and quickest of the Valentine treats that we made.  And if you want to check out the other desserts we made for Valentine’s Day you can find them here: Valentine Jell-O Jigglers : A Fun Activity for Toddlers and Heart-Shaped Rice Krispie Treats : A Valentine Favorite.

What You Need:

  • Apples
  • Decorating icing: I used Wilton white Cookie Icing and Wilton Red Sparkle Gel Icing
  • Decorating Sprinkles: I used ones like these

A Healthy Valentine’s Day Treat

Heart Shaped Apple Slices:

I sliced the apples into wedges. Larger apples will give you more wedges and therefore you can make more hearts from one apple.

I paired the apples wedges to make heart-shape designs. I then used a knife to slice diagonally at the bottom to make it look more like the bottom of a heart.  Then I did the same with the top. I sliced diagonally along the top of the slices to make the arch of the apple slice more pronounced.

The finished treat–we added red gel dots and white icing stripes and dots. I also sprinkled red/white decorating sugar on top of some of the apples.

I hope you enjoyed this healthy alternative for the holiday.  This fun treat can still make for a SWEET Valentine’s Day!

My family loves when I create food content - it me My family loves when I create food content - it means they get to enjoy it when I’m done taking pics and videos;)

They dug into these Easter treats I made this week: Easter Bark (posted a reel of this yesterday) and Rice Krispie nests with Easter egg candy.

The nests are a no-bake dessert and both are easy and fun for the kids to join when making!

And for an Easter outfit idea that’s not a dress, this Spring outfit I’m wearing is head to toe from Target.

I’m wearing XS in both the top and shorts - I cut the stings off the top, and the shorts have an elastic waistband and pockets.

I sized up 1/2 size in the braided sandals - they’re cushiony and very comfy. (Seen in the second pic)

What’s the toughest challenge you’ve ever face What’s the toughest challenge you’ve ever faced? The greatest lesson you ever learned?

For me, I faced one of my toughest challenges at 6 years old, learning the meaning of “life is short.”

I’d spent many afternoons that summer splashing around our backyard pool with my Mom, Dad, sister and baby brother.

It was our first - and only summer, as a family of 5 before life was forever changed. Soon after, my Dad was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He died a little over a year later at the age of 35.

His death not only impacted me as a child, but has continued to affect me in different ways throughout my adult life too.

There’s a sadness with each milestone missed, birthday not celebrated and the wondering of what life ‘would’ve been like.’

There’s the worry in hoping my kids never have to experience losing a parent like I did.

But through this struggle and others, I’ve learned from each of them.

I’ve found strength and resiliency.

Having a positive attitude and focusing on what I do have has helped so much. I can handle hard times and still find joy.

I am grateful for having a supportive family and friends whose love allowed me to have a happy childhood despite my loss.

I gained compassion for others’ suffering through my own.

I know that every day with the ones we love is precious and to be cherished.

So if you’re struggling with something in your life, no matter how big or small, know that you are not alone. We all struggle - it’s not fun, but it’s part of life.

This part of my life hasn’t always been easy to share.

But speaking your truth is a brave and vulnerable act, and it’s how we build real connections.

Plus, you never know when a page from your story will turn into a key chapter in someone else’s survival guide!

Thinking of you today and wishing you hope & strength in your journey. 💕

Who could use a little light today? “A smile i Who could use a little light today?

“A smile is the light in your window that tells others there is a sharing, caring person inside.” —Denis Waitley

During my days working as a pharmacist, my former boss once referred to me and my partner as the “sweethearts of our district.”

I’m an empath to the bone. It truly makes my heart hurt to see other people crying or suffering.

I just want to run over and hug them!

And I used to do just that if a patient came to my pharmacy counter with bad news or a heavy heart.

Sometimes the best medicine is one that heals the soul:)

Nowadays as a blogger/content creator I’m on the other side of your screen, not the pharmacy counter.

But know that I’m here for you too!

This is me, sending my virtual smile YOUR way! 😃
