As a stay-at-home mom with two toddlers, it’s a good day if I shower–let alone dry my hair. However, I still like looking polished and somewhat put together. So for now, my makeup routine needs to be simple. So today I’m sharing my beautycounter review, and giving my honest thoughts and first impression of the makeup products I bought.
Constantly bombarded with social media posts from our favorite bloggers and influencers sharing their latest and greatest products, today’s digital age leaves us with an endless amount of products to choose from.
And with a “swipe up” or “click my link” sending you to shop the products directly, we are able to get our hands on the same amazing products, with just a few clicks of our cellphones.
Therefore, it’s so easy to scroll your Instagram feed and instantly find tutorials, reviews and product info for numerous makeup products.
Because my current foundation was running out, I was looking for a new one for summertime. So I watched a bunch of makeup tutorials and reviews from some of my favorite Instagrammers to get some ideas.
And while there are influencers who certainly are #makeupgoals, I didn’t want to invest the time or money into buying a number of products or have a time-consuming makeup routine.
To help you out, my Beautycounter review covers:
- What I bought: exact products and colors I chose
- Thoughts on the packaging
- What I’m not wild about
- Beautycounter Return Policy
- If I’ll buy beautycounter makeup products again

Why Beautycounter?
What caught my eye:
Social media posts: Seeing more and more posts from women (many of them moms) on social media about Beautycounter makeup, I took notice. Their makeup looked fabulous, and many claimed they were applying it in five minutes or less.
While there are several other popular makeup brands and products being touted by the top bloggers & influencers, Beautycounter was one of the brands that kept catching my eye.
You didn’t need a bunch of products or a ton of time to apply them and look great.
The lip glosses: I started watching more Instagram stories recently and started noticing one mom blogger’s lip gloss in particular.
Watching her stories more frequently, and realizing she was a Beautycounter consultant, my interest piqued. She always wears the prettiest lip colors!
As I began watching her tutorials and color recommendations, I decided I needed to try them out for myself. Seeing all her pretty lip glosses had me curious about the rest of her makeup products, too.
Reading about the Beautycounter mission intrigued me:
The homepage to Beautycounter’s website states their mission, “To Get Safer Products into the Hands of Everyone”.
They also mention things like:
- Beautycounter Neverlist: A list of ingredients you won’t find in their products
- Careful Selection Process for Ingredients used in their Products
- Clean Promise: mentions their high standards for creating ‘clean’ beauty products
Since companies make claims all the time, you never know what to believe these days. But I liked their positive message and mission; this was a bonus feature for me. These claims made me more willing to try them out.
What actually made me buy Beautycounter makeup products?
All the reasons I mentioned above, led me to purchase my first makeup products from Beautycounter. Here’s a quick summary:
- Beautiful makeup products
- Being able to apply them in 5 minutes or less
- Products are from a company who aims to give you safer, quality makeup
Beautycounter Review & First Impression
What I ordered?
I kept seeing the Beautycounter “Flawless in Five” advertised. It’s a makeup set of 6 makeup products boasting a flawless look in five minutes.
As I mentioned before, I was interested in Beautycounter’s “flawless in five” products.
And I would’ve ordered the kit since it’s a great deal, but my current blush, mascara and bronzer were near full. And I didn’t want to waste them.
I figured I’d slowly change these over to Beautycounter products as I ran out of my current products.
I was really interested in their foundation “Tint Skin,” their concealer pen, and the lip glosses to get me started.
While I didn’t order the ‘flawless in five’ set, all of the products I ordered are ‘flawless in five’ pieces.

Tint skin foundation in ‘Sand’
I really love the coverage of this foundation! My favorite thing about it is that I have been able to wear the foundation all day without it looking oily or shiny. This one is definitely a favorite!
Concealer Pen in ‘Light’
This color matched perfectly and has lightened and concealed my under eye area nicely.
Lip Gloss in ‘Peony’
This softer lighter pink color goes with anything! So I’ve been wearing this color daily and love the consistency and coverage of the glosses.
Lip Gloss in Azalea
A brighter pink gloss I am loving!! I thought I’d wear this more for special occasions or dressing up, but now I find myself using it regularly.
Pricing for each of these products seemed fair. And if you’re used to buying brand names from department stores, these are in the same ballpark.
But if you are used to the cheaper drugstore prices, then Beautycounter pieces would be a little bit of an investment for you. If that’s the case, maybe try out one or two pieces at a time.
Beautycounter Makeup Packaging
I thought this was an important point to note in my Beautycounter review because the packaging gives us the first impression of the products.
My Beautycounter makeup arrived perfectly packaged with everything intact. And everything that I ordered was there, and in the correct color/shade.
Each product I ordered came in a long sleek dark blue box with gold lettering; the packaging is really pretty!
As you open the package, you see a statement printed on the side of the cardboard box that echoes their mission, “Beautiful products, made safe.” I thought that was a nice touch.
What I’m not wild about:
When something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. To keep my beautycounter review honest, I also wanted to share the things that I didn’t love as much.
- Shipping isn’t cheap: Shipping charges are based on the dollar amount you order. Ground shipping ranges from $6.95 all the way up to $29.95. And it’s even more for second day or next day shipping. However, I was too excited to wait for my new products and splurged for the two-day shipping. It ended up being $12.95 in shipping for the 4 products I ordered.
- Having to click the concealer pen a lot: I like the concealer pen but feel like I’m clicking it a lot to get a little bit of makeup out. The coverage and color I picked are great. But I’m wondering how long this small pen will last, and for $33 I’m hoping it doesn’t run out too quickly. Maybe I just need more time to use the product. So the jury is still out on this one. . .
- Ordering the products without trying them out: There aren’t many actual Beautycounter stores out there. Because of this, the products are mainly purchased online or through a consultant.
But here’s how you can try Beautycounter makeup products risk free:
So how do you know if the foundation will match your skintone? Or if that lipgloss will be too bright? Buying makeup products without trying them first may sound scary.
Beautycounter Returns: Beautycounter offers a great return policy! I checked their website before purchasing (excluding certain restrictions) they offer returns 60 days from the ship date.
This made me comfortable selecting my foundation online without trying it out ahead of time.
Check Social Media: Look at Beautycounter consultants on social media with a similar skin tone or coloring as you.
This is what I did.
I’d watch their Instagram stories for product details and color recommendations, along with their own beautycounter reviews for products.
And seeing the actual products being applied in these videos is very beneficial. It helped me decide on colors to choose.
Furthermore, many consultants even offer to give you recommendations or suggestions if you message them.
Beautycounter website: When I originally thought about purchasing the ‘flawless in five’ makeup set, I looked at the colors and products to choose from.
Once you select your foundation based on their descriptions, they make recommendations for the other products like concealer and gloss, based on your foundation selection.
Along with the product colors I viewed on social media, this made it easy to successfully select my colors and products. Knowing I had their return policy to fall back on, gave me added confidence to order their products.

Will I buy Beautycounter makeup again?
I’m already planning on the next beautycounter makeup products to buy—there are so many great products to choose from! I can’t wait to add some more lip gloss colors as well as the color intense lipstick. Here are some Beautycounter products currently on my wishlist:
Am I a Beautycounter Consultant?
No, I’m not a Beautycounter consultant; however, I might consider becoming one in the future. I also thought it was better to do a Beautycounter review as a regular full paying customer, and not as a beautycounter consultant.
I’ve had a great first impression of beautycounter makeup products. And if I continue purchasing and loving other products as much as the ones I’m currently using, it’s something to seriously think about.
At the very least, I intend to join their Beautycounter Band of Beauty program. It’s a yearly membership that offers perks, discounts and special offers to its members.
As a mom blogger and influencer myself, I enjoy sharing products and info with my readers that I love and find useful!
I hope you enjoyed my honest Beautycounter review and first impressions of their makeup. . .I couldn’t wait to share these products with you!
