I was introduced to Pure Barre workouts from a good friend (aka my “barre bestie”) 3 years ago. At the time I had an almost 1 year old at home and I’d been doing at-home workouts.
I was trying to lose the rest of my baby weight and didn’t think barre class would be enjoyable enough or worth leaving the house and paying for the classes. But she kept raving about it so I figured I’d give it a try.
I…Was…Instantly…Hooked.
I started off purchasing the unlimited intro month to see if I would stick with it. After a few years of that, my barre bestie and I eventually signed up for the yearly contract.
We consistently take weekly classes so often that we knew it was worth the commitment (we actually calculated it out–it really was worth it).
Once we joined the yearly contract we jokingly said that we ‘joined the cult.’ But there’s been no going back–we love it!! Being part of this community has truly been life changing.
I’ve never loved working out before, and now I look forward to my barre classes each morning.
Nothing else has ever motivated me enough to get out of bed before 5 am. Nothingggg!
That’s why I wanted to share these 10 Amazing Reasons Pure Barre is the Ultimate Workout. . . maybe it will change your life for the better, too!

10 Amazing Reasons Pure Barre is the Ultimate Workout
1. Pure Barre workouts are great for everyone:
Pure barre workouts are fantastic because anyone can do them. It doesn’t matter what your age or fitness level is. You’ll see a range of older and younger women (and even men) taking classes.
While you’ll mostly see women in class, you’ll see a guy in class from time to time. There are even special barre events where they will occasionally host a “bring on the men” night where you can bring a special guy with you to class.
And as long as your doctor gives you the thumbs up, you’ll often see pregnant women and those recovering from an injury taking classes. Modifications are available for all the class moves.
Meeting with the instructor at 7 weeks postpartum, I was able to learn modifications a few minutes before class for the ab section. Being able to modify keeps you participating in the safest and most effective way possible.
2. Pure Barre On Demand:
While being in the Pure Barre studio is my favorite way to “barre,” they also offer Pure barre ‘On Demand,’ for those days when you can’t get to class.
This comes in handy for those days you can’t get away from the home or work to take class.
If you are traveling or on vacation and there’s no studio nearby, you can always take a class online.
There are a variety of classes and class lengths to fit your schedule.
The drawback to the On Demand option, in my opinion, is that it doesn’t have the musical playlists that you get in class.
I also don’t feel like I push myself as hard without the instructor and other classmates motivating me.
But I’ve been happy to have it when traveling and can’t get to a studio. And this ‘On Demand’ library comes free with my yearly contract.
3. The workouts never get boring or repetitive:
Each class follows the same format: the warm-up, followed by arms, thigh work, seat (aka butt) work, and abs. Then there’s the last 2 minutes of class that I like to call the ‘finale’ where they say it’s your last chance to “lift, tone, and burn.”
Finally, there’s the cool down/stretch. There’s also a brief stretch in between each of the active parts of class.
But the fun part is, while you go through the same format each class, you never get the same workout twice (unless on rare occasion you have the same instructor and same format very close together.) Keeping workouts fresh and fun prevents you from getting bored.
It seems like every few months or so, they change up the moves in the warm up and in each part of the class.
The change in choreography as well as the ever-changing playlists of popular music make for a fun, exciting, and never dull workout.
Your mind and muscles are always challenged!
4. Pure barre is a low impact workout:
You know you’re getting a low-impact workout when you get to workout in your socks!
The type of socks you wear during barre class are called “sticky socks.” They have rubber grips on the bottom to help you keep your balance and prevent you from sliding on the carpet during certain moves.
You can find barre socks online, at many department stores, or in the studio. With so many cute colors and styles, you’ll be able to match them to your favorite workout leggings!
Because you use the barre itself, along with the other equipment and your own body weight, you get an effective, challenging, total body workout each class.
There’s no high impact or dangerous moves that are hard on your joints. And depending on your limitations, there are so many modifications that can be made for most moves.
5. The Pure barre community is one of a kind:
From the moment you walk in the studio doors, the positivity and support from the ladies at the Pure barre studio is contagious.
Everyone from your “barre-tender” at the front desk, to your instructors, to your fellow classmates, is encouraging, friendly and supportive.
Walking into the studio each day surrounding myself with women who make me feel good about myself is inspirational.
The studio owners bring the Pure barre community together by hosting fun social events, pop up classes, and in-studio workout challenges.
They also do little things like having a free coffee bar set up on Saturdays in the studio. Little touches like this make the clients feel special and encourage a community feel.
At first I wasn’t sure about having to drive to a workout. I’ve never been a ‘gym regular’ and wasn’t sure how easy it would be to make time to leave the house in order to workout.
But come to find out, this Pure barre community is EXACTLY what I needed. One 50-minute class, plus a short commute to and from the studio, really isn’t that much time out of my whole day.
I’ve discovered that this short time away to do something good for myself makes me feel so good, has even made me a better mom. I come home to my family feeling strong, refreshed, and energized.
Besides having a great workout, my spirit is uplifted by the chance to connect with the women in my barre community. It’s a very positive way to start my day.
6. Great results:
Most of us are familiar with the saying: “The proof is in the pudding.” I’ve had first-hand experience–this workout WORKS.
If you consistently show up and take the classes, you will not only feel better, you’ll look better. (Oh hey there, faux leather leggings!!)
You get to have fun while toning your muscles and getting in shape! My Pure Barre workouts helped me lose the baby weight from my first pregnancy.
I went on to have a healthier second pregnancy, bouncing back quicker and easier than with my first. (And with my first, I never worked out, so there was no bouncing back. It was a long hard road of commitment and time to get back in shape.)
When I first started my Pure Barre workouts, I lost the last 10 pounds of baby weight in about 2 months. After I had my daughter I went back to barre 7 weeks postpartum.
This second time around, I was back in my pre-baby clothes by around 5 months. I went on to lose 20 pounds over 9 months.
I was over the age of 35 when I had both my kids, so if I can do it, you can, too!
I’ve reached my weight loss goals and am thrilled with my current fitness level.
But I continue working out because:
- I love the workout so much!
- I know it’s so good for me.
- It’s a regular healthy routine. (like brushing teeth)
- I feel SO good at the end of my workout.
Besides maintaining strength, these workouts help increase flexibility and balance, I’m seeing that especially as you get older, it’s so important to avoid injury. I really enjoy the stretching portions throughout the class and at the end of class.
I feel my Pure Barre workouts are as good for the mind as they are for the body. You’ll feel the change inside before you see the changes on the outside. And you want to go to class just as much for one as the other.
7. Total body workout
Since we are all busy ladies, we want the most effective workout for our time. These 50 minute classes are packed with full body, toning, cardio, and sculpting moves.
You will work your whole body in each and every class. The beauty of these Pure barre workouts is that you don’t have to go to a gym to figure out what workout to do each day. Or think about what muscle group to focus on.
All you need to do is just show up and follow your instructor! Easy peasy!
As you can see, there are many reasons I workout now, but being able to keep up with my young toddlers as I approach 40 this year is very important to me.
I’ve never been as strong as I am now, and can easily lift both of them (around 30 pounds each) at the same time, carting them up and down several flights of stairs with ease.
I joke with them (but it’s true) that “mommy goes to barre class so I can carry you for as long as you want to be carried.”
8. The Music during class elevates your workout
You know how you hear a song on the radio and just want to jump up and have a dance party?!! That is how the music at Pure barre elevates your workout!
They play different playlists during class. The different songs you hear during class are played to match the choreography. Each beat of the music makes you push a little harder with each repetition.
The energy and motivation you get from the music really makes the Pure Barre workouts SO much fun! It’s one of my favorites parts of these workouts!
And when you’re listening to amazing music and working out hard, you have no time to think of anything else. You give your mind a break from your busy world. This allows you to concentrate on yourself.
Working out for these 50 minutes gets you in shape, energized, and ready to take on the rest of your day!
9. Multiple class formats:
Classic class is the original Pure Barre workout. This is all they offered when I first started going to barre classes. It’s a ballet-inspired class which incorporates small movements to target many different muscles.
You use a double tube, ball and hand weights during this class. And while Classic is still my favorite class, I really do like the variety of having 3 different formats to choose from.
Empower is the second type of class Pure Barre offers. Empower is a HITT cardio type of class.
In this class you use a platform, hand weights and wrist/ankle weights.
You make bigger and more exaggerated movements in this class and have several cardio bursts throughout.
Reform is the third and most recent type of class Pure Barre offers. The moves mimic those of the pilates reformer machines. You use bungees, tubes and sliders during these classes.
10. Numerous locations to take Pure Barre classes:
With over 500 Pure barre locations, there are Pure barre studios in nearly all the states. I have been to several of them and it feels like a home away from home.
While each location may have a slightly different setup, each studio has the same consistent Pure barre look and feel.
When I’m back in town visiting my parents, I pop into the location near them for my workouts.
And when we were visiting family in Florida for Thanksgiving, there was a studio 10 minutes away.
It’s a real comfort to me when I’m away, to walk into another Pure barre studio and be able to do something that’s so near and dear to me like when I’m at home.
When my sister came to town for a visit, she was hesitant to come to class with me. But after just coming to one class with me, she was amazed at how much she enjoyed it!
She raved about how effective the workout was, how great she felt, and how welcoming the instructor and other ladies were.
She even ended up joining her local Pure Barre studio back home!!
I’ve also introduced my mom, mother-in-law and sister-in-law to Pure Barre classes and now they’ve all joined too!
Pure barre love is contagious!!
Many studios offer a first class for free if you live near your studio. So go grab a friend or family member and check it out!
Barre Bonus:
Cute Barre clothes: I live in my barre clothing! Not only are the leggings and outfits super cute, but they are so comfy!
I wear my barre clothes even when I’m not working out. I lounge around in them and wear them running errands. (Target run, anyone?)
Favorite brands & stores where I buy barre clothing:
These are my favorite Amazon leggings!
Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram and the LIKEtoKNOW.it app to see any barre clothing I’m currently loving and wearing!

I just took my first pure barre class last night and really enjoyed it. I signed up for the the 8 classes per month and not until this morning realized I will be away for the last week and half of the month. Do they allow you to visit another location, as there are locations close to where I will be visiting in Georgia during the X-Mas holiday?

Hi Lonice! Thanks for checking out my post! And so happy to hear you enjoyed your first class! I went to different locations several times over the years. From my experience, I either had to pay for a class at a different location (or use a family/friends free pass if I went with a current member from the location I was visiting.) It’s been a few years since I went to another location so things may have changed. I’d recommend calling the location you’ll be visiting and letting them you’re a member at another studio– and see what they have to offer while you’re visiting:) Happy holidays!

I really appreciate this article. I am thinking about joining. I have been contemplating for months and need to do something. I am 53 and am worried if at this stage (@ menopause) if it will still be effective for my body. I would appreciate your feedback.
